There is no account, and nothing syncs to a server

The app doesn't have sign-in, and there's no cloud backend that stores your puzzles, solve progress, or statistics. All of that stays on your device.

What we send off your device, and why

Puzzle generation. If you use the generator to create a new puzzle, the answer words for that grid are sent to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic's API so it can write clues for those answers. The grid itself is never touched by the AI — it's assembled beforehand from a fixed word list. Along with the answers, a random identifier tied to your installation (not to you personally) is sent, solely so we can limit how many puzzles can be generated per day and, if you've paid for a puzzle, credit it to your install. It isn't your name, email, or device ID, and it isn't stored next to the words you generated.

Flagging a clue. If you tap the flag on a clue you think is wrong, unfair, offensive, or has a typo, you can pick which of those it is; that clue's answer and text, plus your reason if you chose one, are sent to our own server, where we keep a running count of how often each specific clue gets flagged and why, so we can catch clues that keep getting reported and improve future puzzles. Unlike puzzle generation, this doesn't include the random installation identifier or anything else tied to your device — there's no way for us to connect a flag back to you or to any other action you've taken in the app. To stop automated abuse, the server also briefly counts how many flags arrive from the same network address each day; that count is kept for up to 24 hours and is never stored with the flag itself.

The free daily puzzle and archive. The app checks our server for today's daily puzzles and, if you open the archive, for past ones. This is a plain request for puzzle content — nothing about your device is sent with it, not even the random installation identifier used for the generator.

Buying a puzzle. If you pay to generate an extra puzzle, Apple processes the payment entirely — we never see your card or billing details. Your device sends our server the App Store's own signed record of that purchase, along with your random installation identifier, so we can confirm it with Apple and credit the puzzle to your install. Removing ads and unlocking the daily archive are handled differently: those purchases are also processed entirely by Apple, but nothing about them is sent to our server at all — your device checks directly with Apple's own records to confirm what you've bought.

Advertising

Unless you've purchased Remove Ads, the app shows a banner ad in your library and a short ad before opening a daily puzzle from the archive that you haven't unlocked. These ads are delivered by Google's AdMob service, not by us, and Google discloses that its SDK collects your IP address (to estimate general location), a device identifier, advertising interaction data, and crash and performance data, for the purposes of serving and measuring these ads. We don't use Apple's App Tracking Transparency system for this — the app doesn't ask to track you across other apps or websites, and ads are shown non-personalized. What we don't do

No accounts, no selling your data, and no tracking you across other apps or websites. We don't use any analytics beyond what's described above for serving and measuring ads, and we don't share data with anyone beyond what's described on this page.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If what the app sends anywhere changes, this page will be updated before that change ships.
